High Speed Rail

The Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Group as members of Go-HS2 and The Campaign for HSR successfully made the case for HS2, ensuring that the Secretary of State for Transport announced that HS2 would go ahead between Birmingham and London.

Birmingham New Street

The Chamber and its partners successfully campaigned to ensure the redevelopment of Birmingham New Street.

Extension of Birmingham Airport’s Runway

The Chamber and its partners at Birmingham Airport and within Birmingham City Council and Solihull MBC led an effective campaign to ensure that the airport’s runway extension was given the go ahead. Indeed that Chamber sponsored an RGF scheme to move the A45 making the runway extension possible.

Creation of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP

The Chamber was instrumental in helping create the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP. The Chamber’s former President Bridget Blow Chaired the development board which ultimately appointed the LEP Board.

Quantitative Easing

The Chamber network has kept up a consistent and effective campaign for the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee to begin Quantitative Easing and then subsequently to increase the programme. Nationally Chambers are encouraging the Bank of England to begin buying corporate bonds rather than government bonds to ensure that the benefits of QE go directly to businesses.

Lowering Corporation Tax and the Red Tape Challenge

Through a persistent and consistent media campaign the Chamber network has changed the terms of debate surrounding taxation and red tape which are now widely perceived to be negative and damaging to business.
